The 2022 AFC Asian Women’s Cup has its Champion as China lifted the cup for the ninth time in the country’s history with a 3-2 victory over South Korea. Meanwhile, Vietnam earned a historic World Cup birth after defeating Chinese Taipei 2-1 in a three-team playoff for the fifth and final 2023 FIFA World Cup qualifying spot of the tournament.ย 
After the Asian Cup semifinals confirmed four of the five available World Cup slots with China, Japan, South Korea, and Philippines earning their spots with quarterfinal wins — Chinese Taipei, Thailand, and Vietnam participated in a three-team round robin playoff for the fifth and final spot.
Thailand were the most experienced among the three teams, but Vietnam won all three playoff fixtures to clinch the final spot.ย

China and South Korea played a riveting final, as China made a strong effort to come from behind in the second half to defeat South Korea for their ninth ever Asian Cup title. The championship is now the ninth Asian Cup title in China’s history, and their first since 2006 after coming up short in 2008. The game ended in dramatic fashion as Xiao Yuyi scored the game winner in stoppage time.
